'Diamond Spirit' By Karen Wood

Setting:
This book is based in Queensland, Australia. With the constant sun and early morning winds, Queensland was a perfect place for this book to take place.
The first chapters of the book are on Jess's farm. The rest of the book is based in the green paddocks, farms and competition arenas.
Characters:
Jess: Jess is the main character of the novle. She is a fun and loving character always looking out for her two best friends, Diamond and Shara. Going through ups and downs, Jess stays strong and always thinks about the positives on any situation.
Shara: Shara is best friends with Jess. She is very determined and doesn't let anyone boss her around. It doesn't matter what the situation is, dangerous or safe she won't listen to anyone. Not listaning was a problem for Shara because it got her into some very serious problems.
Luke: Luke comes into the novely later on, but becomes a very main character later on. He is very important in this story because he teaches Jess how to camp draft, so that she can get out the best of a tragic situation.
Tom: Tom is Lukes adopted brother on his Fathers side. He is always willing to help out around the farm no matter what is going on. He has an eye for anyhting that could go wrong and is aware of everything.
Diamond: Karen Wood had a way with describing everything about Diamond and her feelings, throughout the novel. You feel for Diamond in the best and most sad of times of the novel.
Story:
In the beginning the mood is happy but that all changes through the time to come. Things start to fall apart with Shara and Jess. A tragic accident happens with Diamond, but everything mends it self to be happy and fresh once agian. You are "flashed back" to when Diamond and Jess win a huge competition that they entered with Shara. After winning it Jess puts Diamond out in the paddocks to relax and take a break from all the work, that Diamond and Jess had been doing. Untill everything goes downhill.
Relationships:
Jess and Shara are best friends that do everything together. All of a sudden Shara starts to act secertive towards Jess. Jess doesn't find out what Shara had been so secretive untill the end when she asks around the farm to see what had happened that day. Shara being so determined and a little bit ignorant had not listened to Jess and put herself and Jess in danger.
Afetr falling out with Shara, Jess makes two new bestfriends who are twice the fun of Shara and are constantly there for her. Having heaps of expert advice from there dad they were able to help out Shara with her problems with horses.
Issues:
The book makes me think about how when i get onto a horse next to be always aware of the surroundings and people around me.
Personal Response:
After being told by some of my freinds to read this book it is actually my favourite book. It is so realeastic. This book will make you cry and laugh so much.
